How to play European roulette?

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games, both online as well as in the traditional casino version. It is a thrilling game and very easy to play. European roulette is one of the best known versions of roulette. American roulette and progressive roulette are also other versions of the game.

European roulette is made up of a grid with numbered squares from 1 to 36, alternating between red and black and a green square, numbered « 0 ». The roulette game also has a reel (with a ball) which displays the same numbered squares as the ones on the grid. The aim of the game is to guess on which number the ball will finally stop.

Online roulette has exactly the same rules as traditional roulette. These rules are very easy to understand and can be followed with every version of the game. Strategy or technical skills are not necessary since it is a game of chance. European roulette is played in two steps:

  • First, you need to bet on one or several numbers on the grid
  • Then, the croupier spins the reel to start the ball. The number on which the ball stops determines if you have won or lost your bet

With European roulette, different types of bet are possible. They are as follows:

  • Straight-up : Bet on a single number
  • Split : Bet on two numbers next to each other on the grid. The bet is placed on the line between two numbers
  • Street : Bet on the main vertical line (on the side) to select a horizontal column consisting of three numbers.
  • Trio : Bet on the intersecting point of 3 numbers. The only “trio” bets possible are: 0, 1, 2 and 2, 3, 0.
  • Comer : Bet on the intersecting point of 4 numbers.
  • Top line : Bet on the intersecting point of the first vertical and horizontal lines. The intersecting point must be between: 0 and 1, 2, 3.
  • Six lines : Bet placed on the intersecting point of the first vertical line and the horizontal line separating 2 horizontal lines of three numbers (for example 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15).
  • Column bets : Bets at the bottom of the column chosen and outside of the grid. This bet doesn’t include the zero.
  • Dozen bets : Bet placed at the bottom of the column, depending on the dozen chosen and outside the grid.
  • Black or red : Bet based on the colour of the number where the ball stops. The bet is placed in the corresponding square and doesn’t count the zero.
  • Odd or even : Bet based on the parity of a number where the ball stops bet is placed in the corresponding square and doesn’t count the zero.
  • Miss/Pass : Bet either on the lowest average (1 to 18), or on the highest average (19 to 36). The bet is placed on the corresponding box.

The Texas Hold’Em being the most popular version of poker at the moment, the following steps describe the basic rules of this game. The other versions stay the same and will only vary according to the number of cards dealt.

1st step – the first bet : A poker game usually starts with a compulsory bet called “the blind,” in Texas Hold’Em. This bet is made by both players to the left of the dealer, before any card is actually dealt (that is why it is called “blind”).

2nd step : Two cards are dealt face down on the table to each player. A bid round follows during which players can « raise, » « follow, » or « fold ». Each player speaks one after another in a certain order.

3rd step : Three community cards are placed face up in the middle of the table. They can be used by all the players. This step is called the « flop. » Then another bid round follows.

4th step : A fourth community card is placed on the table. This card is called the “turn.” Then another round of betting follows.

5th step : A fifth and last community card, called the “river” is placed on the table, then another round of betting follows.

Finally the « showdown » follows. Players who are still in the game show their own five cards and can use the community cards to make the best hand possible. The player with the best hand wins the game.

  • or « Double » : this means that you double the amount of your stake and therefore raise your potential winnings. You are dealt a final card and the bank’s hidden card is revealed. If your combination is the nearest to 21, you have won.
  • or « Split » : this option is available when you have two cards with the same value (for example two sevens). You split your cards into two distinct hands and you have to double your initial bet. Every hand which wins the game will be doubled.

The player can bet on the winning hand of the "Banker", on his own winning hand "Player" or on a draw ("Tie"). The dealer will then distribute two cards to the player and to the banker. In some cases the dealer will give a third card to the player or to the banker or even to both (according to the Third card rule). The cards are distributed from a pile of 6 mixed decks of cards. The cards games will be joggled before each game.

The player who is the closest to 9 will be the winner of the game.

If the player has bet on the banker and that the banker wins, the player will be paid according to a ratio of 2 to 1 of his initial bet, minus 5% of commission that will be attributed to the bank.

Dozen Bet

The player can gamble on a group of twelve numbers by placing his chips in one of the three boxes marked "1st 12", "2nd 12", or "3rd 12". If one of the 12 numbers of the player is the number where the Roulette ball has stopped the player is paid 2:1; 0 and 00 are losing numbers.

Red/Black, Even/Odd, Top/Bottom Bet

The player can gamble on one of the left side boxes, on the long side of the table, that covers half of the numbers of the Roulette table (except for the zero). Each box covers 18 numbers. The player bets the same amount on all of his wagers (1 to 1); 0 and 00 are losing numbers.

Boule

Boule

This game is very similar to the Roulette, but unlike Roulette, a player cannot place his bet(s) on the lines (betting on different numbers with one chip) and he cannot make any announces.

Once the player has chosen the amount he would like to gamble and the numbers he would like to bet on, he can throw the Boule and the game will start.

It is important for the player to know that he can gamble on one or more numbers as well as on one of the 6 Equalities, such as:

Red:    2 - 4 - 7 - 9 Even : 2 - 4 - 6 - 8  Miss : 1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Black: 1 - 3 - 6 - 8 Odd :  1 - 3 - 7 – 9  Pass : 6 - 7 - 8 – 9

The Boule will then stop in one of the boxes numbered from one to nine. The dealer will announce the number and the colour of the box where the Boule has stopped, and if the player has wagered on this number, he will win the amount defined hereunder.

All the wagers gambled on a number that comes out will be paid 7 times the bet plus the player’s initial bet. The player will then have the choice either to leave his initial bet on the table in order to play again the same numbers or to play another number or to leave the game.

All the winning bets on one of the Equalities will be paid one time the bet plus the initial bet.

The number 5 is paid as the other numbers, in other words, 7 times the bet plus the initial bet.

However if the number 5 comes out the player will lose all his bets played on the Equalities.
